Fishing Report

03/10/11-It’s about time!!!  Spring is right around the corner and the steelhead action is slowly starting to pick up.  Caught my first centerpin steelhead two weeks ago and it is a different experience to say the least.  We will be out all day 3/12 to find a few steelhead that have started to push up.

12/05/10 – Finally took a break from the hunting and taxidermy to see if I could locate any steelhead.  The water levels rose a couple weeks back so I was hoping for some quick action.  I took out the G-Loomis Center Pin and a 13′-6″ Raven IM6 in the hopes to locate a couple biters.  I was only able to spend a couple hours on the river with out any success but there is a lot of winter left and I am sure I will hook into my first Center Pin fish sometime in the next couple months.

On a side note I notice many smaller ponds have some skim ice so it won’t be to much longer, with the cold forecast, before we have safe ice.  I forecast by around Christmas we’ll have fishable hard water!!!  Good luck and be safe!!

10/25/10 – Been a while since the last fishing report.  With deer season in full swing the fishing has taken the back burner; however I did get the opportunity to get out fishing this last weekend to see if I could locate any salmon or steelhead in the river system.  There were a few salmon however they were looking rough and on their last legs of the spawning run.  Could not get the salmon to take spawn, skein, or spinners.  Made a location change and located some fresh steelhead that were really aggressive towards the bright orange #4 Mepps spinners.  I ended up catching and releasing three bright chromers.  In all it was still a very enjoyable weekend on the river!!

09/28/10 – River fishing for salmon is in full swing in Michigan’s Northern Lower.

Michigan’s Southern Lower desperately needs rain to bring in a big push of fish.  Most rivers have salmon in there system however they are few and far between.  We will continue to get a few tricker’s coming in as the big push waits for the water levels to come up.  If we don’t get the rain I am afraid the run will be un-noticed.  The fish will just continue to trickle in as they do not have a choice.  Patience is the key, along with frequent changes in lure selections.  Good luck and before to long we’ll have Steelhead and Ice Fishing around the corner!!   Tight Lines!!
